Test Drive: Dongfeng T5L, a robust and efficient SUV

The T5L is a proposal from the Chinese brand that aims to gain ground in the family SUV market, for those who seek quality, technology and comfort for their families.

this vehicle It is equipped with a 1.8 L turbocharged enginewhich works with great performance with a box 6 speed manual. The engine has a power of 158 HP, a torque of 240 Nm.

The T5L’s turbocharging forces additional air into the engine to create power when needed, but ensures the 1.8L engine remains fuel efficient when additional power is not needed. That is, additional air is provided that generates power. More air equals more oxygen, and more oxygen means more efficient gasoline combustion, resulting in a significant power increase of between 10% and 30% for an internal combustion engine.

It has eco-leather seats, daytime running lights, 18-rim wheels, radio touch with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, reverse camera and parking sensors.

On going!

MOTORES received this SUV and was able to test it mostly on the road, it is a family vehicle for those who like to travel and enjoy the different tourist spots that our country has.

We start the route from Guayaquil towards the Jujan canton, taking the route of the North Alternate Bridge. During the journey we tested the stability of the car, and despite being large at no time was it noticed that it loses control when cornering at the maximum speed allowed. Other large SUVs tend to sway in the rear, but the T5L didn’t.

In the Vuelta Larga enclosure, belonging to the Yaguachi canton, we turn aside to enjoy the path that borders the river. It was a good opportunity to test the vehicle’s suspension, since a large section of the road presents irregularities. In the cabin, stiffness was not felt, the good damping is one of the most outstanding points.

One point in which the T5L stands out is the comfort provided by its seats for long trips, at no time did any of the occupants (copilot and two in the back) of the car show fatigue during the nearly five hours that we were on the road. Perhaps something that the brand can improve in future versions is infotainment, with a better audio system and USB Type-C connections.

Highway performance returned 51 kilometers per gallon, while in the city and with moderate traffic we averaged 43 km/gal. We carried out the entire test with eco gasoline and it should be noted that the vehicle did not rattle, despite the low octane number of the fuel. However, it will always be advisable to tank turbo engines with super for better performance.

In conclusion, the T5L It is a vehicle for large families due to the comfort provided by its three rows of seats (EITHER).
