James Cameron lets out a big secret about ‘Avatar 3’

More than a decade after the release of ‘Avatar’, its sequel has been enormously successful inside and outside movie theaters: in Spain, ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water‘ is already the highest-grossing film since the pandemic began and, in terms of awards, the film has broken the record for nominations from the Visual Effects Society.

But the second part of the saga has also left us with many unknowns and a desire for more, and its director, James Cameron, has just revealed a substantial fact about upcoming installments, apparently unintentionally. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, we advise you to stop reading right here, which spoilers coming.

In ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water‘, we return to Pandora years after the end of the first film and witness the destructive return of humans to the alien planet. But, perhaps most importantly, we met the family formed by Jake Sully and Ney’tiri: their adoptive daughter Kiri -daughter of Dr. Grace, who died in the first film-; the firstborn, Neteyam; the small Tuktirey ‘Tuk’ and Lo’ak.

Precisely the latter, the second of the children, has a great role in this film, which could be even greater in the next. And it is that, as revealed -apparently by accident- his own director, Lo’ak will be the narrator of the next filmthus replacing Jake Sully.

This has been advanced by Cameron during an interview with the presenter Edith Bowman, in which he has confirmed that the next installment is already in post-production and You have ‘missed’ this significant detail. “Lo’ak really emerged as a character that people followed,” says the filmmaker, who immediately blurts out the following: “He’s already the narr… Oh! I’m giving something away here”.

However, Cameron continues – “but okay, I think it might be intriguing for people to think about what’s next,” he says – and confirms that if Jake Sully was our voice-over narrator on the first two movies, “we have a different narrator for each of the following movies“. “We see it through the eyes of a different character and movie three is through the eyes of lo’ak“, corroborates in the advance shared by Bowman.

Slip or marketing strategy? In any case, we already know that the young Na’vi will be the narrator in the next film and we can expect some other character to pick up the baton in the next sequel.

When will the next movies arrive?

To see the next deliveries we will not have to wait as long as for the second and, in fact, we already have the schedule for the release of the next three:

  • Avatar 3 (The Seed Bearer): December 20, 2024
  • Avatar 4 (The Tulkun Rider): December 18, 2026
  • Avatar 5 (The Quest for Eywa): December 22, 2028

It’s more, Aitor Echevesteone of the digital composers of ‘Avatar: El sentido del agua’, already confirmed to laSexta in December that the third and fourth films “have already been shot” and “all footage is going into post-production”:
