The European manufacturer Airbus and the Chilean helicopter company Ecocopter signed a memorandum of understanding to begin collaborating on the launch of urban air mobility services in Ecuador, Peru and Chile.
With this agreement, the partners will explore and define launch scenarios for air mobility operations, especially in these three Latin American countries.
This includes joint activities to develop air transport operations on the continent, as well as ways to focus on early use cases and pilot cities and regions.
This partnership is an expansion of the manufacturer’s relationship with Ecocopter, which operates a fleet comprised primarily of Airbus helicopters (16 H125, two H135 and three H145) for aerial work missions in a variety of industrial sectors.
“With already 20 years of experience operating helicopters and 5 years operating drones, this partnership is a natural step for us. We seek to be a relevant player in the UAM ecosystem (abbreviations in English of air transport operations) and the projects that we will develop together with Airbus will bring us closer to this objective”, indicated Marcelo Rajchman, Corporate CEO of Ecocopter.
“We are excited to extend our long-standing relationship with Ecocopter. Together we are taking concrete steps in co-creating the UAM ecosystem and our decarbonization roadmap,” said Balkiz Sarihan, Airbus Director of Partnerships and Strategy Execution for UAM.
Sarihan added that this partnership leverages “Airbus’ expertise in innovative vertical flight technologies and Ecocopter’s extensive operational history and innovative culture.”
In September 2021, Airbus unveiled its eVTOL CityAirbus NextGen prototype, to explore advanced air mobility technologies and bring urban air mobility services to life.
With an operational range of 80 km and a cruising speed of 120 km/h, it has been developed to suit a variety of deployments in urban areas. (YO)
