“Many young people want to be like my dad,” says the son of Pablo Escobar for the glorified portrayal of drug trafficking

Pablo Escobar’s life as a drug trafficker continues to be one of the most watched content by young people and adults on streaming platforms.

According to Sebastián Marroquín, the son of Pablo Escobar, there are series like “El patrón del mal” on Netflix that romanticize “narcoculture”.

“Today Pablo Escobar, 30 years after his death, generates more news than when he was alive,” Marroquín said at a conference in Chile. The son of the capo regrets that many young people currently seek to look like his father, motivated by the movies and series that are made about his role in drug trafficking.

According to the Colombian, it is the fault of the glorification of criminal activity that drug trafficking is a trend.

“Many young people write to me saying: I saw the movie, I saw the series and I want to be like your dad,” said Marroquín, who assumed that identity when he took refuge in Buenos Aires after Escobar’s death in 1993.

Although in his youth he studied Architecture and Design, Marroquín dedicates much of his time to exposing what he considers the true image of his father and drug trafficking.

“I feel much richer than my father, because I am a free man,” Escobar’s son said. “My father should not be portrayed as a success story, because he never got to enjoy anything,” he added.
