The word, books and everything that makes up its wide universe are the great protagonists of the Production and Innovation Center MZ14, where from Tuesday the 15th to Saturday the 19th of November the eighth edition of Libre Libro, which this year has as its theme the “Invisible Borders”.
Guayaquil Poetry Festival: 15 years betting on poetry without geographical borders and without public or municipal budget
Alejandra Zambranodirector of the School of Literature, explains in dialogue with this newspaper that “There is a border that is very difficult to define between cultural journalism and literature itself.” And precisely under this premise Paul Alonso, guest from Georgia Tech, opened this meeting on Tuesday with a talk on journalism and infotainment.
Organized by the School of Literature of the University of the Arts, the meeting brings together more than 20 independent publishers and bookstores in the country and three international publishersWhat Editorial Almadia, from Mexico, and the Group of Independent Publishers of Central America (Geica), who will have their own spaces to display their catalogs and participate in talks about their cultural work. “We are connecting with independent publishers that do not necessarily come from the big cities or the big publishing circuits in Latin America, but it is also looking at what is being done in terms of projects in smaller cities.”, affirms Zambrano.
Some presentations of literary works will have a different dynamic with authors such as Jorge Vargas, Jakk Cabrera, Víctor Lara, Darío Jiménez, Roberto Ramírez, Carlos Vásconez, Sandra Araya and Albel Arcoswho will participate in an activity called Quadrilateral of Books. “We have tried to make presentations a little more dynamic, not the typical presentation that you arrive and listen to the author read for an hour and that may be a bit boring, but we have tried to give it more dynamism and for this we are going to do a kind of quadrilaterals, where the authors are going to present pieces of their works and a referee chooses the winner”, Zambrano explains.
The director mentions that for this eighth edition, variety was sought in the programming to attract a diverse audience. This is how there are also activities for mediators who work with children; For example, this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. the round table will take place “The publishing world of children’s and youth literature”, in which Micaela Chirif, Carolina Bastidas, Ana María González and Alejandra Zambrano will intervene. While on Friday Micaerla Chirif will do a reading for the little ones, at 10:00.
Editorial work and production, collective creations, digital curation will be part of the round table discussions that will take place these days.
Among the book presentations are that of Gabriela Ponce with his recent work Float Y Andres Cadena with Biopic, the Friday at 15:00; Angela Arboleda will present his work that woman is deathSaturday at 11:30; Cecilia Velasco will present hostel for butterflies, Saturday at 12:30; or the book crosses on the waterof Joaquin Gallegos LaraSaturday at 2:30 p.m.
Another novelty is the one-on-one on poetry with Camila Peña and Victoria Vaccaro, “where attendees will be able to see the authors in action defending themselves with their own texts”.
