Polsat’s sitcom “The World According to the Kiepskis” has become one of the most popular Polish comedy series in the history of Polish television. The production has been broadcast since 1999, with the last episode airing last November. Throughout the series, Barbara Mularczyk-Potocka played Mariolka, the daughter of Ferdynand and Halina Kiepski.
Serial Mariolka sums up her participation in “Kiepski”
The actress recently gave an interview for the portal. In an interview with the website, she confessed her attitude to the fact that most people associate her mainly with “Mariolka”. It turns out that Mularczyk-Potocka has a lot of distance to this:
I laugh at It. And if someone makes a mistake, even more so. (laughs) I’ve been playing this character for 23 years and I know a lot of people may not know my real name. It’s like that when I meet someone who plays in a series, I remember their character’s name first, and then the real one. There is nothing strange about this. Some of my friends have me saved in their phone “Basia – Mariolka”, so that I don’t mistake them for another Basia. I have a great distance from it. I think it’s funny
The 38-year-old woman also told about the backstage of the casting for the role of Mariolka, which she attended as a teenager. She admitted that, unlike other girls applying for the role, she was not stressed and decided to enter the hall first. However, the scene she had to play turned out to be controversial. It was about phone sex, which was even dedicated to one episode of the series, but the actress says that she handled it very well:
It helped me a lot that I went to the theater with my dad, because I watched various crude scenes there. I played as my imagination told me. Everyone was laughing so I felt I had done well
Later in the conversation, the actress admitted that playing in the series changed her life and shaped her as an adult. She also revealed why she did not appear in the last episode of “Kiepski”. It turned out that the actress at that time fell ill with the coronavirus:
I’m sorry I won’t be seeing our team again. We’ve gotten along over the years. I will never wear my black and white patch pajamas again. But what can I do? I have to come to terms with it and keep good memories in my head. A certain phase in my life has just ended. I really regret that I didn’t play in the last episode of “The World According to the Kiepskis”. I got COVID-19 and couldn’t make it to the set. I had done a million tests the day before, hoping that the result would be negative, but it didn’t help. I was unlucky enough
