The designs of Juan Sebastián Aguirre (Apitatán) from Quito stand out in a new Etafashion collection

During his childhood, Quito artist Juan Sebastián Aguirre, now 35 years oldHe couldn’t clearly pronounce his name and I summed it up in one word: Apitatán. Unknowingly there was born the name under which it would be recognized in the national and international cultural milieu.

Since August 22 and for a month, Aguirre is the special guest of the Etafashion brand to include his designs as part of its ETA Art campaign.which is part of the social responsibility initiative “ETA loves the planet”. Thus, the Ecuadorian brand wants to highlight among its clients the need to preserve the environment, as well as become a platform to make visible the work of Ecuadorian artists.

The piece that Aguirre prints for the fashion chain was created in digital format emulating the appearance of a woodcut, with a lot of texture, and leaving color aside to focus on the essence of the drawing and convey the essence of his work.

The reusable ‘shopping bag’ costs $9.99.

Art for me is a vehicle to be able to create, it is the field where creation can materialize. art allows you a communication between the soul of the person who observes or receives it and the one who created it; It’s like an exchange of energy”, affirms Juan Sebastián.

On his official website, Aguirre defines himself as a painter of non-traditional canvases and everyday stories, which reflect the identity and Latin American collective memory. “The scenes that he interprets in his paintings are a critical look at Quito, Ecuadorian and Latin American culture.starring colorful characters, traced with the geometric edges of miscegenation”, it is explained.

With a vibrant color scheme, influenced by Ecuadorian landscapes and Andean fabrics, this artist has narrated his experiences and personal visions, through his murals, in different corners of Latin America, the United States and Europe.

According to the artist, the message that he brings in his collaboration with Etafashion is a call to have respect for mother earth again, since she is being disrespected and violated from different scenarios, such as mining, pollution and deforestation. Aguirre wants to invite the community to have a greater love for the planet and also to remember that human beings do not exist in a context alien to nature, but are part of it.

In addition, He is excited about his participation in a campaign with a national focus to make his work visible locally, since his greatest exposure, he assures, has been internationally. “This initiative also captures messages of awareness towards real problems and allows the creation of a link between art and fashion”, he says.

Other artists invited in previous months to join this campaign were Paula Callejas and Pamela Pinto.

The artist’s work will be reflected exclusively in nearly 2,000 items, Come in shopping bags reusable and unisex t-shirts, which they can be purchased for $9.99 (bags) and $19.99 (t-shirts). Available in stores and on their website.
