is one of the biggest hits of Polish Television and has enjoyed unflagging popularity among viewers for years. Although the last episode was broadcast over 7 years ago, the series comedy still delights and makes you think. The plot of the production is timeless, and the characters presented perfectly portray the reality we know.
The “Ranch” cast. Cult heroes and outstanding actors
The success of “Ranch” consists of many factors. Undoubtedly, one of them is a perfectly selected cast and a multitude of outstanding acting performances. Particularly noteworthy is the fact that he plays two extremely different characters at the same time. The actor played twin brothers standing on opposite sides of the barricade – one of them was a clergyman and the other a mayor. The trials and tribulations faced by his characters not only provide viewers with a lot of laughter, but also make them think and analyze reality.
An equally interesting role went to Artur Barcis, who brilliantly played one of the darkest characters on Polish television. Its hero, Arkadiusz Czerepach, is extremely intelligent, and at the same time clever and calculating. He can manipulate the mayor in such a way that he is the one who actually exercises power in Wilkowyje.
“Ranczo” wouldn’t be the same series if it wasn’t for the regulars of the famous bench, who perfectly portrayed the stereotypes about the inhabitants of small towns and villages. The actors playing these characters: Leon Niemczyk, Piotr PrÄ™gowski, Bogdan Kalus, Sylwester Maciejewski and Franciszek Pieczka, constantly held philosophical disputes and passed on folk wisdom to each other. Their thoughts and funny cliches have certainly stuck in the memory of many viewers.
“Ranch” refutes stereotypes. A Polish village shown from the perspective of an American
“Ranczo” is a picture of the mentality of Poles presented in a distorting mirror. The plot of the production oscillates around overthrowing harmful stereotypes that are repeated not only by the inhabitants of small towns. This is especially noticeable when an American, Lucy, comes to Wilkowyj, and her innovative ideas do not immediately meet with the enthusiasm of simple people from the province of Podlasie. She also needs much more time than she expected to find herself in a (only seemingly) hermetic environment. The concept used in the series allows viewers to look at the mentality of Polish society from a completely different perspective.
The script of the series was written with a great distance to reality and humor, which immediately appealed to the viewers. Many of the scenes are presented ironically, with a sneer, and their high viewership proves that Polish viewers can laugh at themselves.
