Soap operas, theater and sports, the passions of Juan José Jaramillo, actor of the comedy ‘Family by Accident’, which will premiere in December

the actor and Hombre de Hierro Ecuadorian Juan José Jaramillo will be in the main cast of the comedy family by accident, which will premiere on December 2 and 3 at the Fedenador Theater; a story of unexpected kinships and an inheritance that is waiting.

The play is written and directed by Gino Freire, and raises a family conflict. A man dies and leaves a fortune to his relatives, but these are not only made up of the official family, but also the second home that he kept secret. To distribute the assets, there is a condition: they must live harmoniously.

Jaramillo’s role is Morfeo, a self-conscious, studious, unattractive boy who doesn’t know how to relate to others and who needs to know the world.

The cast of family by accident is made up of Jaramillo, Denisse Angulo (TV presenter, in her theatrical debut), Fabo Doja, Nicole Rubira, Mauro Falcón (comedian and creator of digital content as @soykachafa; it will also be his first appearance on stage), Jonathan Flores, Ney Calderón and Gino Freire.

“This is a long-form light comedy for the whole family, approximately 80 minutes long; It’s very funny. We have been in rehearsals for a month and a half, although the restrictions of the last few days have made it quite difficult for us,” says Jaramillo, who this year he starred in the musical Jazz Dances Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp, also together with Nicole Rubira. In 2020 she gave life to the character of Simón Bolívar in the play Vulcan’s Forge, another musical with which the bicentennial of Guayaquil’s independence was commemorated.

Jaramillo speaks with a particular accent: he was born in Guayaquil and defines himself as Guayaco, while his mother is from Cuenca and his father is from Quito, and he also lived and studied for several years in Chile. “I always say with pride that I was born in the South Naval Hospital, in front of the Navy Planetarium, near the port and Guasmo; so i’m southern. I lived in that sector and studied at the Cristóbal Colón school up to the fifth grade. From there, because of my father’s work, I went to live in Chile, and there I discovered the theater; Because of Chile I became an actor”.

Upon returning to Ecuador, he looked for an institution to continue his vocation, and graduated with a degree in acting from the University of Specialties Espiritu Santo. “Curiously, in my first telenovela as part of a fixed cast, which was The secret of Toño Palomino (ecuavisa, 2008), the character I auditioned for was a runner, and I had to prepare myself to measure up”. He started training, but everyone left him behind, he remembers, because he didn’t have the necessary physique. He had to persevere and became so enthusiastic that he never walked away from the sport.

The following year I was already doing The successful attorney Cardoso (ecuavisa2009). The character was totally different, but I kept running”, and assures that it will continue like this for the rest of his life. “Unlike football or other disciplines, in which the athlete’s ‘useful’ life ends around 35 years of age, the world champions of Hombre de Hierro they are 36, 37, 38 years old”, says Jaramillo, who is currently 35. “The toughest categories start at 30 years old”, something that he relates to the high cost of training and equipment.

At the moment he is preparing together with Juan Carlos Izquierdo for lead his Python team to the Ironman Cozumel (Mexico) competition, which will take place on November 20. He has been a triathlon coach for more than seven years, and it was precisely in Cozumel that he debuted as a triathlete or Hombre de Hierro in 2014, by completing the three regulatory distances of running, swimming and cycling in a single day, within the time limit, which is 18 hours. His personal record is 10 hours 23 minutes (2019), and he hopes to reduce it in Mexico, since he is still on his way to overcome some of the consequences he had after contracting COVID-19 in 2020. Next year he wants to go with Python to the competition in Maryland (United States).

What has more weight, then, acting or sport? “Both are very important, and I won’t let them,” says Juan José Jaramillo. “I am still fully dedicated to both activities, which is kind of crazy, because in this country neither of them is well paid or well seen., but I have always believed that one has to do what one does with love and with a lot of passion, and that fills my soul. I’m happy”.

Jaramillo reflects that he can afford to have two such exciting activities because he has no children and is not married, although he is in a “serious and happy” relationship with his girlfriend. “The theme of the family for me is very important; and, if I were to have it, I would completely slow down in the sport ”. The performance, he understands, will continue there.
