The joys and sorrows of same-sex unions in ‘Our Wedding: The Plays of Gay Marriage’ at the Paulsen Studio

The new staging of Paulsen study, Our wedding: the works of gay marriagewhich opens this friday august 19you want to address this issue in a way vibrant who at the same time respects their tragicomic components.

The assembly is a kind of anthologywith an approximate duration of an hour and a halfmade by nine short stories of American playwrights that the institution considers important to know for its prestige on the world theater scene: Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Moisés Kaufman, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, José Rivera, Paul Rudnick and Doug Wright.

“It is a work that came into my hands in 2015 in Lime (Peru), thanks to one of my teachers, David Carrillo”, explains the director of the piece, the actor and teacher Raul Sanchez McMillan.

The play tells stories of homosexual couples that they have managed to get married, thanks to the laws that allow it; and also of those that do not. “The difficulties that these characters have by lovingthey will make us laugh and cry”, promises Sánchez, who chose to address this issue precisely because “the theater is my trench to talk about the issues that I think are important. Why I want everyone to be able to love and be loved as I can.”

The cast has been integrated by the actors Diego Naranjo, Itzel Cuevas, Fabo Doja, Doménica Menesini, Belén Idrovo and Raúl Sánchez himself. “I had never worked with any of the actors or actresses in the play before, but I have always liked their work on stage, as well as having great esteem and respect for them. Also, I took care that everyone wanted to add their voice to the discourse of the play. To be in agreement with the love for all and all the same”.
