Colin Farrell is an actor who has worked in very different productions throughout his career. With the odd stumble, like your bullseye in Daredevil or being Alexander the Great, but also with good and risky productions: Langosta, Hidden in Bruges O The sacrifice of a sacred deer. It doesn’t seem like his character, The Penguin in The Batman is going to be precisely a mistake, but that the expectation and hypeAround the new adaptation directed by Matt Reeves is very real.
In the trailer that we saw more than a year ago, there were many things that surprised fans of the Guardian of Gotham. The first the dark tone and that detective investigation atmosphere that many times has stood out from the character. But however, aside from Pattinson’s gothic appearance as Batman, what caught the most attention was the look, totally unrecognizable as the villain of The Penguin, already played by Danny DeVito in 1992 with Batman Returns. Farrell appeared much thicker than he himself is, however although it may seem that he has gained weight using the physical part of the Method’s performance model, the truth is that in the Happy Sad Confused podcast he praised the makeup artist of The Batman : “Mike Marino is a genius. He is a genius of drawing, sculpture and form and I create that face for the penguin (…) I had already gained enough weight to The North man and I didn’t want to be big again naturally because I had some small health problems derived from it. ” In the end they designed a smart suit that simulates all the fat that the billionaire villain needs.
Unfortunately for fans of both the actor and the character, Farrell confirmed that there is quite little in this story. “I’m only in it for five or six scenes, so I can’t wait to see the movie because my presence won’t ruin it (…) I’ll feel a bit uncomfortable during the damn nine minutes that I have, and then the rest, I can’t wait to see how he (Matt Reeves) brought this world to life. ” Farrell is quite modest with his character and has only words to continue praising the head makeup artist Marino. “When I saw what Mike did, the whole character made sense to me (…) If anyone ever thinks that what I do in The Batman it’s a decent performance, I’ll be happy to keep 49% of the credits “
Unfortunately, we still have to wait a bit to see Colin Farrell as The Penguin again in The Batman, well it will be released on March 4, 2022.
