Night falls, romance blooms. The table is set, dinner is about to begin. Take a seat womenthen his lover and finally his husband. What begins as a drama of infidelity turns into a comedy of the absurd in Swapa play that seeks to “undress the superficiality and hypocrisy of a decadent society.”

It is a free adaptation of the work Modern timesof the Mexican writer Alejandro Liconaunder the direction of actor and director Gabriel Garzon. This will be released friday july 15 in it The Boot Theater (Salado boardwalk), at 20:30.
“I had the pleasure of contacting Alejandro Licona, we talked by email and he gave me permission to use his work,” recalls Gabriel. In his words, the plot of this drama “is a situation that he comments that he lived through and describes in this comedy. It is based on the fact that her wife, in this case Elena, invites her lover to her house and she is going to introduce her to her husband. From that point the conflicts of the staging arise, when the lover comes to integrate the family environment in a confusion that appears somewhat humorous for the public.

“It is a situation that can occur among many couples and that we generally try to hide. On this occasion, he is left afloat on stage, ‘on the table’, to lose his fear of talking about these topics that we consider taboo and we live in everyday life”, explains its director.
In the plot Garzón also acts, he takes the role of the lover. He is accompanied by the renowned actors Marcelo Gálvez and Pamela Palacios, as the married couple.
Why Swap? “I base myself on a well-known tango, Cambalache, which was sung by Gardel, who said that the world was and will be the same. Everything is already written, nothing is new, everything has already been told, ”he illustrates. “Practically that is life, a swap. It has changes, ups and downs in our daily lives, that if we put it in a play, we would think that our life is not as boring as we think. The spectator would cry and laugh with us”.

In this Guayaquil ‘swap’ there is an open ending. “The public will choose if it is a happy ending and others will say if it has a sad ending, because perhaps it will fill them with melancholy. Some will make the connection to their personal memories. But what interests me is that the public is really entertained and have fun with this work”.
It is the second address for Gabriel Garzón. His first opportunity as a director was in 2018, in nothing is absolutea micro-theater proposal next to his father, the popular actor Hector Garzon. “He has always supported me and I am aware that he is proud of me. Theater is a career that deserves, from my point of view, a lot of respect and if I dedicate myself to this I have to do it well and out of respect not only for my family, but also for the public. I want people to leave happy when they see the play”.
Swap It will perform four shows this month: July 15, 16, 22 and 23 (Fridays and Saturdays), at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the site box office, $10 per person.
