has more and more competition. There is a growing number of platforms where we can watch iconic productions and brand new works by famous artists with a star cast. Sometimes, however, well-known names and an interesting plot are not enough to attract overstimulated viewers. More and more often, filmmakers play with known forms of not only creating, but also presenting their work to the audience.
“Kaleidoscope”. What order should I watch the series in?
This was the case with the series “Kaleidoscope”, which hit Netflix in early 2023. The plot of the production does not differ much from the classic heist movie. Here we have a group of thieves who are trying to get into the vault to grab the biggest loot in history. An interesting fact is that the story is based on real events that took place during Hurricane Sandy. Then seventy billion dollars in bonds went missing in lower Manhattan.
The format of the series is unique. Netflix points out that the drama of the production is not built in a classic, linear way. Each viewer will receive the episodes in a different, random order, but everyone will receive the finale in the form of “White” at the very end, which will dispel any doubts accumulated during the screenings.
The experiment is to make each viewer get a completely different experience from watching the series. The order will affect the perception of the story presented in the production, as well as its characters and their motives, and will make many viewers aware of the importance of individual elements of the works, which we often do not even notice.
Netflix has suggested four viewing orders for “Kaleidoscope”. Each makes a different movie
For those confused by the new formula, Netflix has prepared a solution. The platform published on its official Twitter four suggestions for the order in which “Kaleidoscope” should be watched. Each of them will bring the series closer to the style we know from other productions.
The first is to watch the episodes in chronological order, the second is to appeal to movie fans – we meet the heroes in the episode 5 days before the heist, then we go back 7 years, we approach the climax, and just before it we treat ourselves to the farthest flashback and insight into the future .
The third method proposed by Netflix is the “Orange is the New Black” style – we start with two flashbacks and the morning right after the heist. The last order is to meet the expectations of fans of classic detective stories.
