Yuji Nunokawa, known for adapting Naruto, dies

The anime world is in mourning. At the age of 75 he passed away Yuji Nunokawafounder of Studio Pierrotthis December 25.

Nunokawa was primarily known for adapting important works from the magazine Weekly Shone JumpWhat Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, Bleach, and recently Black Clover.

After graduating from design school in 1967, he worked as an animator and technical director at Mushi Productions, Studio Jack, and Tatsunoko Production. He was also a director in anime series like The Funny Judo Champion, Casshan Y Time Bokan.

In 1979 he founded Studio Pierrot, from which important anime such as Magical Angel Creamy Mamy, Magical Fairy Persia, Osomatsu-Kun and Kimagure Orange Road came out.

During the 2000s, Nunokawa participated in the creation of the Japan Animation Associationwhich manages the Suginami Animation Museum.

The Japanese Government decorated him with the Cultural Affairs Commissioner’s Award in 2018 and the Medal of Honor Blue Ribbonone of the highest honors in Japanese society.

“He will be greatly missed for his leadership, commitment and passion,” Studio Pierrot wrote in a statement. (YO)
