Attack of the hippie sect. Murder ordered
It was August 8, 1969. Sharon Tate, in the absence of her husband, who was in London at the time, shooting photos for the next production, met with friends in one of the restaurants. After dinner, the actress and her friends came to the residence of Tate and Polañski, where tragic events took place a few hours later.
Shortly after midnight, a car drove up to the villa. Four assailants, Tex Watson, Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel and Linda Kasabian, belonging to a hippie group, entered the property. The attackers were armed with a revolver, pliers, ropes and knives. First, they cut the telephone wires to prevent people in the building from calling for help, and then the three of them went inside.
Watson had them lie down on their stomachs in front of the fireplace. When Tate started crying, he told her to shut up. Sharon Tate begged for mercy. The attackers were ruthless
Three of Tate’s friends (Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski and Abigail Folger) were murdered while the attackers robbed the house. Once they had finished collecting the valuables, Watson, the leader of the group, ordered the last living victim to be killed. Sharon begged for mercy, asked the attackers to take her with them and kill her only when her son was born, because she had only two weeks to give birth. Unfortunately, the perpetrators were relentless and did not heed the requests of the actress. Sharon Tate, 26, was stabbed 16 times. The assailants, leaving the crime scene, left the inscription “pig” on the front door, which Atkins made with Tate’s blood.
The funeral of Sharon Tate and her unborn child took place on August 13. Their bodies were buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City.
