One of the things that made Top Gun: Maverick such a success as a sequel was the way viewers were indulged in the nostalgia of the original film.

Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 Tony Scott classic in which Tom Cruise played a rebellious student at the United States Navy’s elite combat weapons school who competes to be top of his class.

And he does it with the most epic looks of the 80s. From his bomber jacket to jeans and aviator-style glasses.

So getting in shape isn’t easy, but Teller used a special training and diet plan to get there, even cutting out alcohol was an important part of the process.

When Miles began preparing for the film, he said that “The first thing was a long run to improve cardio”, as reported by GQ.

“He had to be able to put up with an entire boxing match during filming, so we had to develop that.” Then it was about four hours of shadow boxing, focus pads, heavy bag, speed bag and jump rope, he explained.

“Once we got past that, we would do weights for about two hours. She ended up running some of the combinations in the scenes for an hour or so. Then I had physical therapy, so we spent the whole day in the gym.”

The transformation for Top Gun: Maverick has been just as impressive as the one for Bleed for This in 2018 and that’s because the actor sticks to his workouts and doesn’t give them up for the world.

“Everything changed for me immediately after I signed on for Top Gun: Maverick,” says Greg Davis, “because I knew that, well, there was the beach soccer scene, but also flying the F-18.

“When you’re in an F-18, it’s not always good to be big in the upper body, so I focused more on building up the legs. Lower body exercises”, also reports GQ.

“Diet-wise, I stayed away from the fatty foods I used to eat, so I completely cut out fast food. If you ask anyone why she fell for Tom Cruise, it was because of that scene playing beach volleyball in Top Gun,” she commented.

When Greg read the script and saw that the beach volleyball scene was going to be in the sequel. “I immediately spit out the fries and started working out: give me a salad and let’s do this.”

He also recounted that “I started Top Gun: Maverick at 84.3 kg and due to my diet and training, I literally went down to 78.4, which was crazy.”
