Learning to play the guitar with first-hand information

In these times of overabundance, also in music, it is difficult to find the right material for each musician, no matter how much you dive among tons of methods that are almost always traced from each other and that contribute little. From Motmo, digital platform that offers tablatures (simplified sheet music) and videos of Basque musicians and musicians, they explain that anyone who wants to find versions or scores of their favorite songs on the Internet to learn to play the guitar or another instrument will find thousands of them, “but they are usually full of errors and are not reliable at all”, according to Bruno, creator of the new platform.

“This problem is the origin of the birth of Motmo. If the creators of the songs teach us how they are played, there is no doubt about the reliability of the scores. Our platform offers reliability and the opportunity to learn with the artist”, they explain.

Motmo has been running for a month, and the five workers involved – a “small but very powerful” team, claim to be – renew their content every week with new videos. During this time they have uploaded videos for bass, guitar and ukulele of artists of all kinds, classified according to their difficulty (very easy, easy, intermediate, difficult and very difficult): Baldin Bada, Dupla, Ezpalak, Idoia, Nøgen, Olatz Salvador, PiLT, Rafa Rueda, Sua, Sara Zozaya, Txapelpunk …

When asked why they answered: “In addition to taking into account the proposals of our team, we also look at the requests of followers and followers on Instagram. In addition, we also search on social networks and platforms such as Spotify to find out what number of listeners and followers the groups have “.

Users can pay a flat rate of five euros per month to have access to all the videos, tablatures and interviews with the artists. In addition, whoever wants, whether registered or not, can buy the tablature for 1.99 euros, and students can upload their videos to show that they have learned the songs well.

Looking to the future, Motmo is working to collaborate with more Basque groups and jump to the state level. In addition, they have told us that the next songs by Dupla and Huntza will be available on their platform the same day they are published.

Sara Zozaya is one of the artists who has explained in a video how her songs are played. The music of San Sebastian shows in the videos uploaded to Motmo how “Alien”, “Lili” or the wonderful post-rock song “Rosa” are played.

What attracted you to accept the offer to show your songs on Motmo?

In these times when we have so much information and content, I am interested in initiatives that provide quality and added value. Personally, it seems like a good opportunity to share my music.

Also, the feeling that comes from seeing other people play your songs is incredible, and this platform can make many people feel that.

What did you miss in your process of learning to play the guitar? How did you learn to play and what advantages are there today compared to that time?

I remember finding chords and tabs of my favorite songs on Google, and that’s how I started playing. Now, after getting to know Motmo, I would have liked something like this to exist when I was learning, to have had adequate information and to have seen the artist live.

What have you wanted to highlight in your videos? What would you like Motmo users to see in your videos?

I have a simple way of playing guitar, and I think people who are learning will appreciate that ease.

What advice would you give someone who is starting to play an instrument?

I would tell him that the uniqueness is more in the musicality than in the technique, and that playing very well is useless if feelings are not transmitted.

What song tutorial would you like to have on hand?

I remember learning “Stairway to Heaven” when I was little, looking for tabs here and there. It would be nice to have a good tutorial on that song.
