The popular artist Georgie Dann, known as a great ambassador of the song of the summer thanks to hits like “The chiringuito” or “The barbecue”, has died today in Madrid at the age of 81, as confirmed by hospital sources.
Born in Paris in 1940 under the name of Georges Mayer Dahan, began to cement his fame in Spain from his participation in the Mediterranean Festival of 1965, which was followed by his first success, “The catashock”, 1969.
With themes as well known as “El bimbó”, “Macumba” o “Carnaval, carnaval”, Dann has 303 works registered as a composer and lyricist in the SGAE, in whose database the year of his birth is actually 1936.
Graduated in Teaching and with nine years of studies at the Paris Conservatory, where he specialized as a clarinetist, he began his recording career with “Why a pajama” (1966) until adding more than twenty works.
One of his last appearances in the media took place in 2013 for the publication of “Beer”, a theme with all its hallmarks of style that currently has nearly half a million views.
It so happens that his two children, Patricia and Raúl, born from his marriage to the Spanish Emilia García, also tried their luck in the world of music as the group Calle París.
