The Minister of Culture and Language Policy, Bingen Zupiria, has considered this Wednesday that the creation of a “differentiated” fiscal framework for creators of the Basque Autonomous Community “is not far” from being able to materialize.
Zupiria has appeared in the Basque Parliament, at the request of EH Bildu, to take stock of the activities promoted by his Department since the beginning of the legislature and advance some of the challenges that remain pending for the next two years.
One of the issues that he has spoken about has been that referring to a specific taxation for creators, which has been taking shape since Congress approved the Artist Statute in 2018.
He explained that several meetings have been held with the Basque Department of Economy and Finance and with the provincial councils that have to come to an agreement and, as he has stressed, this regulation is not far from being carried out.
Previously, he pointed out, a census of creators would be created to set the requirements to be met for this group in order to be able to correctly manage that specific taxation.
One of the novelties that he has announced during his appearance is that the Basque Government will acquire a collection with drawings, sketches and other documents by Cristóbal Balenciaga and Casa Balenciaga, and has announced that the Governing Council next week will approve a special item for this operation.
After this acquisition, the Historical Archive of Euskadi will be the body that will catalog this collection that will form part of the collections of the Balenciaga Museum in Getaria.
The counselor has stated that, after the pandemic, activities have recovered but some that take place in closed spaces, especially theater, dance, symphonic music, opera and cinema, require special attention.
Zupiria has confirmed that the Department of Culture and Language Policy is working on the new Strategic Plan for Culture, which will be presented in the coming months.
