Double widow’s pension. Is it possible? The left has a new proposal for seniors

Currently, a widow may receive either her old-age pension or the survivor’s pension after her deceased husband, which amounts to 85% of the benefit that he would be entitled to. Unfortunately, it often happens that women simply do not pay the full amount, so they give it up. The solution may be the “Widow’s Pension” project proposed by the Left.

Married family pension. Conditions that must be met to receive it

Currently, to receive a widow’s pension, the senior woman must resign from her benefit and meet one of the following:

  • at the time of death of the spouse was over 50 years old or was unable to work,
  • brings up at least one of the children, grandchildren or siblings entitled to a survivor’s pension after the deceased husband, who are under 16 years of age, and if they are studying at school – 18 years of age,
  • takes care of a child completely incapable of work and independent existence or completely incapable of work, entitled to family support,
  • has reached the age of 50 or has become incapable of work after the death of her husband, but not later than 5 years from his death or from the cessation of raising children.

The widow’s pension assumes that the senior woman will be able to keep her benefit and collect part of the survivor’s pension

The “Widow’s Pension” project was submitted to the parliament in May 2022. Unfortunately, he got stuck in the Sejm. For this reason, the members of the Left and the National Alliance of Trade Unions prepared it anew, this time as a civic bill. It assumes that a widow will be able to receive two benefits. Depending on your choice, it will be:

  • own and a supplement of 50 percent. family pension after the deceased husband,
  • family pension after the deceased husband and a supplement of 50 percent. your pension.

What is more, the draft act also provides that the right to a widow’s pension will be granted to all persons entitled to benefits – not only persons insured in ZUS, but also in KRUS and uniformed pensioners. The project also covers people who became a widow or widower even a few years ago. In order to present it in the Sejm, deputies must first collect 1,000 signatures so that they can submit a notification about the appointment of a support committee. If they succeed, they will have to collect as many as 100,000 signatures in the next three months. – Poland is not yet a friendly country for older people.
