Saturday, October 29, will be a day that will undoubtedly be highly remembered not only by footballers, but also by tourists who will visit Guayaquil to witness the only 2022 Copa Libertadores final, between the Brazilian teams Flamengo and Athletico. paranaense. Taking advantage of this situation, a group of professionals from La Escuela de los Chefs promotes an activity for the weekend.
This is the BrasaMaster Fest, a gastronomic and musical proposal that aims to highlight the dishes of renowned local chefs, such as Gabriela Cepeda, from La Central; Luis Maldonado, from Tribute; Álvaro San Juan, from La Tasca de Carlos; José Andrés San Martín, from San Martin BBQ; Iván Grain, from Marrecife; Julio Cruz, from Don Cruz Steakhouse; Juan Carlos Gándara, from Kanhá Bistro; Andrés Flores, from El Patrón Grill Smoke; Gabriela Aguirre, from Encanteria Ice Cream; Paula Molina, from Milling; and Miguel Rendón, from EsCoffee.
“We did this festival because we have lived similar experiences in some countries that we have visited. We like the experience of complementing music with the culinary. Choosing who was going to participate was not easy; We did not make it open: we selected the best recognized chefs in Guayaquil and in the rest of the country”, says Vicente Alvarado, spokesperson for the festival.
The site chosen for the development of BrasaMaster Fest is the boardwalk of the Historic Buijo of Samborondón, a sector inaugurated by the mayor’s office of that canton in June of this year, which has helped to reactivate tourism in that area, which is on the shore of the Babahoyo river. Here, the community was a fundamental part of the process of this project, which began with the readjustment of its spaces, such as the construction of its boardwalk and the gastronomic terrace, where family groups and the general public go.
But it will not be a traditional barbecue festival, because, as its organizers point out, “there will be dishes gourmet prepared with shellfish, but vegetarian food options have also been thought of”.
And, as in any festival, music is a fundamental part of livening up the stay of those who attend. “In the musical part we are going to have DJ Monillo, from the opening, that is, from 2:00 p.m. From 3:00 p.m. you can see the transmission of the Copa Libertadores final match. After that comes the presentation of Ricardo Pita, who will be with his entire band. Then Luz Pino, a singer from Cuenca who lives in Guayaquil, will make an appearance. And the band Swing Original Monks and the Ecuadorian DJ Denise Chalela close”.
sustainable event
As usually happens in this type of initiative, the waste that is generated has a negative ecological impact. Hence, this aspect has also been thought of. “It is a culinary, musical and ecological festival that comes with a campaign to recycle its waste. All festival waste will go to recycling, including dishes and other waste. The idea came from being able to contribute to the environment, because in events of this magnitude a lot of waste is produced. It is precisely one of the experiences that we have lived in international festivals, and that here in the country we have not seen it: every time we have a big event, the first thing that is seen is the disastrous thing that is left at the end, with garbage scattered everywhere. . We are going to classify the waste. We are not going to use single-use plastics, but reusable, recycled ones. The important thing is to see that no type of garbage reaches the river; We do not want to cause pollution to the environment. Apart from the fact that the tourists who visit us will appreciate a different culinary proposal”, says Alvarado.
For this, he says, all the containers that will be used will be compostable and biodegradable. “Additionally we will have recyclable containers, such as PET plastic, cans and glass. The idea is that we can recycle and, in cases such as polypropylene cups, that they can be reused”.

How much does it cost and how do you get there?
If you’re up for it, admission costs $35, and includes a tapa at any culinary stand and a drink, which can be beer, sangria or sparkling wine. The schedule in which the BrasaMaster Fest will take place will be from 2:00 p.m. to 02:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29.
The entrance to the Historic Buijo, considered one of the oldest rural sectors of Ecuador, is through av. Samborondón, entering through the entrance to the cdla. Ciudad Celeste, where the Supermaxi Plaza Batán is located.
