Euskaraz irakurri: Ezpatak, liburu eta disko artean

the filmmaker Paul Urkijo Alijo (errementary), the leading actresses Edurne Azkarate and Itziar Itunoand the leading actor Eneko Sagardoy They have presented this cold Saturday the film Irati at the Durango Fair, within the Irudienea space, dedicated to audiovisual creations.

The film, in which EITB participates, takes us to the Basque Country of the 8th century, to the clash between pagan ways of life and a Christianity that is expanding, globalizing, by force. Basically, the film approaches in its own way a theme that hundreds of years later is heard these days in the corridors of Landako: the balance between emerging culture, dominant culture and residual culture.

It is within this framework that Paul Urkijo stated, in his midday talk, that he had filmed “a love story”: “Irati is neither a film about Basque history and mythology nor a fun adventure film; we have written a love story to the mythology and history of the Basque Country and to action cinema”, the director from Alava stated about his second feature film.

The film, which presents an ambitious production, an unappealable aesthetic invoice and technical genius is, in the words of Urkijo, “a tribute”. “It is a tribute to small, different and colorful things”, which is why it was “essential” to be in Durango to the extent that the film aspires to be a new link in the chain of Basque mythology “along with Joxe Migel railing or the song Mari of Su Tagar”.

In IratiUrkijo enjoys within the limits of the fantasy and adventure genre, always accompanied by very present music (the work of Aranzazu Calleja and Maite Arroitajauregi is spectacular), to weave a film that impresses when it looks at the mythological and excites when it deals with the human.

'Irati'

‘Irati’

Irati It is a “very loose” adaptation of the comic The Irati cycle (Jon Muñoz Otaegi and Juan Luis Landa, 1995), and the actor Eneko Sagardoy (the force that moves his characters is once again impressive) has explained that it has been very nice to feel in the process that “we were part of something that will happen from one generation to generation.”

Irati will arrive at Hegoalde cinemas with the endorsement of the Audience Awards at the San Sebastián Fantastic and Horror Film Week and the prestigious Stiges festival, five Goya award nominations and the emotion shown and the applause offered this midday at Durango by a very close public.
