Euskaraz irakurri: Gabriel Aresti 1953an hasi zen idazten, you baino urte eta erdi lehenago
The first works of the writer gabriel aresti are from 1953that is to say, a year and a half earlier than previously thought, as shown by the two sonnets published by Jon Kortazar in the magazine sancho the wise.
These are two poems found in a religious book, signed by Gabriel Maria AS on February 16, 1953. “Sonnets for initiation into writing, but framed in the aesthetics that he defended in his very early days”, according to Kortazar.
Until now, the beginning of Aresti’s career dated back to 1954, but the discovery moved the date forward a year and a half.
According to Kortazar, the sonnets have a historical value, but also an aesthetic one. “On the one hand, they inform us of their readings: Shakespeare’s sonnets, as seen by the use of meter; on the other hand, it shows their desire for experimentation from the first momentplaying with the meter of the sonnets, experimenting with stanzas”, explains Kortazar.
The Bilbao native speaks in his poems about the denial and rejection of the lover. That lover appears “like a dream, like a literary image.”
As for the language, the sonnets show that the poet was “interested in singular and rare vocabulary, using a highly cultured Castilian”.
The researcher points out that the sonnets, after all, “reveal the poet who wanted to be a writer who had just started in literature.”
