The series “Wednesday”, which tells the story of the eponymous daughter known from the “Addams Family” series, is currently one of the most popular series on Netflix. The most famous scene in the series is the one where the main character dances to the song “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps at the school prom. Jenna Ortega, who plays the title character, recently gave an interview to “”, confessed that she was struggling with the coronavirus while playing this scene.
Jenny Ortega revealed that she was working with symptoms of coronavirus
In an interview with a British magazine, Ortega told that despite getting out of bed with symptoms reminiscent of COVID-19 that day, she went to the set in such a state and recorded this famous scene from the fourth episode of the series, waiting for the test results.:
That was crazy. It was my first day with the coronavirus so the scene was terrible to record. I woke up and it was strange because I never get sick, and even if I do, it’s not particularly serious. Meanwhile, here I felt as if I had been hit by a car, and there was a small goblin in my throat that was scratching me there. Between takes, I was given medication and we waited for a positive test result
When the actress received a positive test result, she was quickly sent to quarantine. Once she recovered, she wanted to record the scene again, but there was no time for that. The actress herself said that she probably could have played her better, although viewers do not think about it at all, because Wednesday’s dance is currently a big hit on social media.
Jenna Ortega also choreographed the scene herself. She admitted that the main inspiration for her was the work of artists such as Siouxsie Sioux, Lisa Loring, Lene Lovich and Denis Lavant. She also saw many videos of goth parties in the eighties.
Many do not like this decision of the creators of the series
Some Internet users are furious with the producers of “Wednesday”. They believe that the moment Ortega alerted the crew to her poor condition, they should immediately stop work on the set. Continuation of shooting until the test result was, in their opinion, irresponsible and exposed the actress herself, as well as the rest of the crew, to the deterioration of their health.
The great criticism in social media caused Netflix to issue an official statement in which it explains its conduct. We can read in it: “Strict COVID protocols were followed on the set, and after confirming a positive test, the production took Jenny from the set.”
