Euskaltzaindia, the Basque Language Academy, has appointed Itxaro Borda and Andres Alberdi as full members. The decision was made on Friday, in a plenary session held in the San Sebatián town hall: academics voted to make up for the absences of Xarles Videgain and Andoni Sagarna, who have become emeritus.
Now, Borda and Alberdi have a period of eight months to prepare their entrance speeches.
Andres Alberdi Gorostiaga (Getaria, 1950). Graduated in Philosophy, he was a teacher for 38 years, and is the author, both alone and in collaboration, of more than twenty books and grammars on Basque Language and Literature for ESO and Baccalaureate
Itxaro Borda (Baiona, 1959) completed higher studies in History, and is currently retired from the portfolio trade. She is a novelist, poet, author of texts and songs for various musicians from Euskal Herria.
Currently, Euskaltzaindia is made up of 24 academicians, 10 emeritus academicians, 143 corresponding academicians and 65 honorary academicians. In total, Euskaltzaindia has appointed 98 number academicians since 1918, the date of its creation.
