EA Sports predicted who will win the Qatar 2022 World Cup using their FIFA 23 game

EA Sports, the company responsible for the video game FIFA, simulated the 64 matches of the Qatar 2022 World Cup using the tournament modality of the latest installment of the video game, FIFA 23. The winning team of the tournament in the simulator was Argentina, beating Brazil in the final with a 1-0 result, with Lionel Messi scoring the only goal of the final.

EA Sports makes these predictions for each World Cup, and has hit the world champion in the last three editions of the World Cup. In 2010 he predicted that Spain would be champion; in 2014, Germany; and in 2018, he predicted that France would win the World Cup in Russia.

For the 2022 edition, EA Sports also predicted that Argentina would go through the group stage without incident, going first in the group with Poland as escort; they would face Denmark in the round of 16, the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, they would eliminate France in the semifinals and finally they would be crowned against Brazil.

Lionel Messi and Emiliano Martínez would be, according to EA Sports, the winners of the best player, scorer and best goalkeeper awards, respectively. They also predicted that the scoring podium, in addition to Messi with 8 goals, would be made up of Barcelona’s Dutch striker Memphis Depay and Paris Saint-Germain’s French striker Kylian Mbappé, tied for second with 6 goals. The third goalscorer of the cup, according to EA Sports, would be the American Christian Pulisic, with 5 goals.

The ideal eleven of the simulated tournament was as follows:

Goalkeeper: Emiliano Martinez (Argentina).

Defenders: Joao Cancelo (Portugal), Raphäel Varane (France), Marquinhos (Brazil), Marcos Acuña (Argentina).

Midfielders: Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo de Paúl (Argentina).

Attackers: Vinicius Jr. (Brazil), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Kylian Mbappé (France), Richarlison (Brazil).

Ecuador, for its part, did not qualify from the group stage in the EA Sports prediction: two of its group rivals, the Netherlands and Senegal, qualified for the round of 16 in the simulation, and only two teams qualify by group. (YO)
