Tomasz Wołek was a journalist, publicist, and opposition activist in the People’s Republic of Poland. For 19 years he was also a regular guest of Jacek Żakowski on Friday Morning Radio TOK FM.

Tomasz Wołek was born in 1947 in Gdańsk. He was a graduate of history studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Gdańsk. In 1968 he participated in student rallies as part of the March events, and in 1980 he joined Solidarity. During the martial law, he wrote for underground magazines.

He was a sports and political journalist, he also commented on what was happening in the world. From 1990 he was the deputy editor-in-chief of the daily “Życie Warszawy”, and in the years 1993-1995 he was its editor-in-chief. .

He has published in “Rzeczpospolita”, “Gazeta Wyborcza” and “Polityka”. For 19 years he was a regular guest of Jacek Żakowski’s broadcast on Friday, he created the so-called a flock commenting on the events of the past week. He was the author of several books on Catholic topics, as well as works on football (especially South American football).

In 1997 he was awarded the Kisiel Prize, and in 2011 he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
