Two activists from the environmental organization Just Stop Oil two cans of Heinz tomato soup have been emptied about the famous painting ‘Sunflowers’ by Vincent Van Goghwhich is in the National Gallery in London.
As announced by the environmental group itself through its Twitter account, they have done so as a claim for the high cost of living and to demand the British government stop all new oil and gas projects.
“Is art worth more than life? More than food? More than justice? The cost of living crisis and the climate crisis are driven by oil and gas,” they say in the tweet. “Thanks to soaring gas prices, millions of British families will not be able to afford to heat a can of soup this winter,” they add.
After this action, the activists stuck to the wall and were detained by the agents there. From the National Gallery they have issued a statement. The museum room in which the painting is located was “immediately evicted and the museum notified the police,” they explain. Now the investigators are analyzing the scene. “The frame has sustained some minor damage and the painting is unharmed”they announce.
