“Andor” now in Disney +. There aren’t many star wars here, but that’s not a drawback at all [RECENZJA]

The title character of the Disney + series “Andor” is Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), who we saw in the movie “Star Wars: Rogue 1”. Now we are going back to learn about his story, the fate that led him to the mission undertaken with Jyn Erso in the 2016 production.

“Andor” at Disney +. “Above all, this is a series about people.” And well manned

If you have associations with “Blade Runner”, I won’t be surprised. It starts out very dark and I have to admit that the script writer and creator of the series Tony Gilroy had an idea how to involve the viewer in the story from the very first minute. “It’s easy to say that this is happening in a galaxy far, far away, but I can also somehow translate it into my own experience.” This is a story about ordinary people and I like it very much – said Diego Luna during a meeting with journalists in August.

Above all, it is a series about people who live their lives, and great forces manipulate them and force them to make certain decisions.

Diego Luna in the role of Cassian Andor is extremely eye-catching, but not only he is doing a good job here. His friend Bix Caleen has the face of Adria Arjona (if you don’t know her, see, for example, the new version of “The Father of the Bride” with Andy Garcia) – an actress with a beautiful face that can show reliably complicated emotions. There is a fantastic chemistry between the actors that is difficult to decipher – is it brotherly-sister attachment and quarrels, or the sentiment of former lovers? After three episodes, we don’t know yet what exactly the two of them have in common, and I can’t wait to learn more about this relationship.

There is no need to convince anyone who saw films with his participation that Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd can play. Supporting characters are also very interesting – the cast includes, among others Fiona Shaw (“Eve’s Obsession”), Forest Whitaker (“The Last King of Scotland”) and Alex Lawther (“The End of the F *** ing World”) – not all of them have appeared on the screen yet. Kyle Soller certainly presented himself well in the role of Siril – an Imperial officer as if taken from Robert Wise’s “The Sounds of Music” or Bob Fosse’s “Cabaret”. Cold blue eyes, strongly defined cheekbones, simple posture and soul of a servant who on the one hand wants to “show” everyone, and on the other is also a coward.

A very promising start

I think that “Andor” may appeal to many fans of “Star Wars”, but also to those who have not been particularly interested in what was happening in the “distant galaxy”. Spaceships and droids are only elements of the presented world – dirty, complicated. People are in the foreground. People who dream of a quiet life, but the great politics or the ambitions and arrogance of people enjoying some power, or even chance, make it impossible for them. Probably – because I’ve seen three of the 12 episodes of the first season – the creators managed to achieve what they intended: make a series about ordinary people, a community that lives in the galaxy. Before the premiere, Luna promised:

From such a series you expect adventure, epic momentum, but it can also be a very intimate story about people. You will see the heroes associated with the Empire brush their teeth, not just giving orders to kill someone. We have a chance to show the universe from a different angle.

This is what I count on and so far I have not been disappointed.

Andor will have 24 episodes. The creators of the Disney + series shot 12, and work on the set of the next twelve is yet to begin. On September 21, there was a three-episode premiere, the next one will have to wait until September 28, they will be available at weekly intervals.
