“Marlowe”the latest work by Neil Jordan, will close the Official Section of the 70th San Sebastian Film Festival with the presence of the Irish director and the actors Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger, who lead a cast that also includes Jessica Lange.
The film, which will be screened as a world premiere out of competition after the closing ceremony on September 24, is based on the novel “The Black-Eyed Blonde”, written by the Irishman John Banville based on the immortal detective created by the author American Raymond Chandler nearly 90 years ago.
The film, shot in Barcelona and Dublin, is set in Los Angeles in the late 1930s. The story begins when the investigator, played by Liam Neeson, is tasked with finding the missing lover of a beautiful heiress, reported Thursday the Zinemadia in a statement.
The San Sebastian festival recalls that Neil Jordan (Sligo, 1950), who chaired the official Zinemaldia jury in 2019, began his career as a writer, but in the early 1980s he opted for directing and producing films such as “In the company of wolves ” (1984), “Mona Lisa” (1986) and “Game of Tears” (1992), with which he won the Oscar for best original screenplay.
“Interview with the Vampire” (1994), “Michael Collins” (1996), which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and “Countercurrent (1997), which won the Silver Bear for best direction in the Berlinale, are part of his filmography.
He has also directed “The Good Thief” (2002), which opened the Official Section of the San Sebastian Festival.
