The case between Kevin Specey and the producer of House of Cards concerned an actor’s breach of contract. The party responsible for the series was the claimant.
Kevin Specey will pay the producers of House of Cards. The verdict is final
Due to the accusations of MRC II Distribution Co. he fired a main cast member and changed the script for last season, which was trimmed from 13 episodes to eight. The producer also conducted its own investigation, which resulted in further charges against Spacey. Another five men from the crew working on the Netflix series reported the actor’s inappropriate behavior.
After an eight-day hearing, the arbitral tribunal decided Spacey must pay MRC 29.5 million in damages, plus expenses and court fees of $ 1.5 million. The actor defended himself, saying the accusations were unrelated to his contract and work for the MRC. Los Angeles Supreme Court Justice Mel Red Recana dismissed his argument and upheld the arbitration award.
Kevin Spacey was forced to retire from his artistic life in 2017 and became a persona non grata in the film industry. Five years ago, actor Anthony Rapp was the first to publicly accuse the actor of trying to get him into sexual activity in 1986, when he was just 14 years old (Rapp’s lawyers eventually dropped the lawsuit). Later, charges were brought against Specey by other people. In Great Britain, he will face a trial next year, which was to take place in 2005-2013 in London and Gloucester. These are four cases of sexual assault and “engaging in penetrative sexual activity without consent.” The actor pleads not guilty.
