With meat, with special sauces, in “magnified” portions, the hamburger is one of the favorite appetizers (if you want to see it that way) or main dishes for many foodies. And in Guayaquil today the Burger Show is inaugurated, the first festival that has this preparation as its protagonist and that will be held in the El Dorado esplanade (next to Riocentro El Dorado), with 60 participating enterprises.

The day, which will serve the public until Monday, July 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., is part of the official events for the 487 years of the foundation of Guayaquil. In this edition the three best will be chosen, distributed in the categories traditional, smash and with author’s recipe.
Here we present two of the most innovative proposals of this appointment.
heart attack burgers
This family business, with three brothers who run it, began in January, after a conversation in which they all proposed to create a business that differs from others already in operation. “This business idea came from home; our whole family loves hamburgers, so we decided to go down that line and train ourselves to be able to offer the best product and service. We wanted to propose a new way of eating hamburgers, and what better than opening a ‘hospital’ that honors it!” says Christian Márquez, one of those responsible for this business.
“It was a long process in which we took ideas from outside and inside the country. We wanted our place to be totally different and for all of Ecuador to be able to identify our brand and our hamburgers”, he adds.
Located at km 14 of the road to Daule, inside the PDV gas station (in front of the Las Palmas motel), they have nine types of hamburgers on their menu, the most requested of them: bathed in cholesterol, covered in calories, grilled heart attack and BBQ heart attack.
In addition to hamburgers, this business has fries cheddarcheese injection cheddarportions of onion rings and strawberry, vanilla and chocolate milkshakes.

Initially it was not a restaurant that they had. The sale of frozen hamburger meat, with varieties of pork, beef, shrimp, chicken and cheese, was its main activity. After the pandemic and due to the change in biosecurity measures, several of their clients began asking them to sell the finished product instead of just selling the meat. So, in October 2020, Amor de Pigs appeared.
“The name of the place comes from the affectionate nickname that my husband and I have for each other: we call each other ‘pig’,” says Micaela Márquez de la Plata. She, along with her husband, Ali Barakat, and her cousin, Marco Delgado, are responsible for this undertaking.
In its first months of activity, the menu had only hamburgers and sandwiches; Now they have added preparations such as Moors, fried foods, nachos, desserts and appetizers.
The house specialty is the pork meat burgers, with the manaba, the pituka and the vaquera being the favorites of its guests.
Amor de Pigs won the innovation award at the Raíces gastronomic fair, with its manaba hamburger recipe.
Its premises are located in Miraflores, Calle Segunda 316. Its attention to the public is from Tuesday to Sunday, from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; and on Sundays, from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Choosing the best burger
To qualify the best hamburger in Guayaquil, the Monday July 25starting at 6:00 p.m., a jury that includes the famous international Colombian chef Jorge Rausch, jury of MasterChef Celebrity Colombia Y Ecuador; businessman Ricardo Leyva, investor of Shark Tank Colombia; as well as a chef representing McDonald’s International, will conduct a tour of all participating establishments to determine the quality, flavor, temperature and presentation of each hamburger.
The best burgers will be selected in three categories: signature burgers, smash and traditional.
The first place winners in each of the categories They will enjoy the following prizes: a trophy for the best hamburger in Guayaquil, $2,000 in cash, a trip to Colombia to do their internship at Jorge Rausch’s Criterión restaurant, an approved credit of $30,000 to expand their business, free qualification and automatic to the Burger Show 2023, an official plate with the endorsement of the Municipality of Guayaquil, among others.
The godfather of Burger Show 2022 is Mc Donald’s, the largest hamburger franchise in the world.
