Preventive checks on heavy trucks, greater safety at a lower price

Every vehicle has a preventive maintenance plan, that is, technical controls to the units to avoid possible damages; these checkups are based on a manual or mileage plan for the unit. The manufacturer must inform the reasonable time to change oil, crowns and other implements to avoid serious damage and guarantee safety. Preventive checkups help:

• Save on fuel and repairs.

• Get the most out of the truck.

• Extend engine life.

• Reduce time for repairs.

Preventive checkups, long-term savings

Diego Pazmiño, product support specialist for the Mavesa Group, explains that carrying out these checks is essential to be able to maintain the guarantee offered by the manufacturer, at the same time it will lengthen the useful life of the unit while lowering costs.

“Some unit owners believe that it is a very expensive maintenance, but with these preventive check-ups much more expensive repairs and corrective maintenance are avoided. Everything goes hand in hand with the treatment of the vehicle, especially the way it is driven, in addition to the daily and weekly checks that the owner must do,” explains Pazmiño, who is also the chief administrator of the SDY (Service Department Year) program.

The Mavesa Group in 2019 was recognized with the SDY Excellence Award by HINO MOTORS, this being the highest award granted by the brand.

In that year, among fifty-four distributors, Mavesa was one of the eight that obtained this recognition. In addition, it was also confirmed that the Mavesa Group is the recipient of the highest award for the results obtained in 2020.

When these checks are carried out, the owner of a truck is taking care of the investment made by maintaining the guarantee, and thus extends the useful life of the components, as long as it is carried out with qualified labor. Thus, you would be obtaining security on the trip.

«The owner has to clearly know the operation and maintenance plan of his vehicle; for example, the JMC trucks, distributed by Galmack, must have a first preventive checkup when completing 1,000 km, which is a standard that the brands handle. A visual inspection is carried out and if there is any type of anomaly, the immediate correction is made. Then the planning of the following maintenance (5,000 km and 10,000 km) is carried out”, explains Henry Morales, head of Galmack-JMC workshops, Quito.

When dealing with heavy vehicles, it is always advisable to do a visual inspection first, such as tire pressure, battery points, confirm cabin insurance, inspection of lights and windshield wipers, check of fluid and oil levels, functions on and off, programmed thermostat temperature, door lock and seat belts.

Know the vehicle and have it handled by a professional

According to the specialists, something fundamental is to know the vehicle and it must be driven by a professional, for example, there are many occasions that the machine brake or air brake is not used correctly and this generates serious and dangerous problems. This system must be used correctly and then depress the brake pedal to completely stop the unit. Diesel vehicle technicians and drivers need to understand how it affects the operation of their vehicles.

The Mavesa Group, when delivering the unit, carries out a directed and personalized technical talk based on the model that the client is acquiring regarding driving methods, instruments and dashboards, maintenance periods, types of lubricants depending on the system and components. .
