Tapia considers the impact of the German economy in Euskadi “inevitable”

The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapiahas recognized that the economic consequences that the energy crisis and inflation may have in Germany will have an “inevitable” impact on the economy due to its many links with Euskadi.

However, the counselor has pointed out that despite a international context “plagued by uncertainty”the large German companies maintain growth forecasts and their commitment to the production plants they have in the Basque Country.

Tapia spoke in this way after concluding the trip he made to Germany between Monday and this Friday to visit directors of the main multinationals that have facilities in the Basque Country.

He has met with representatives of the Trumpf Group, Siemens Energy, Bayer and Mercedes Benzin this last multinational accompanied by the lehendakari, Iñigo Urkullu.

As reported by the Department headed by Tapia, all the representatives of these companies have conveyed their interest in maintaining current business ties.

These four companies, which are dedicated to sectors such as machine tools, energy, the automotive industry and biosciences “reaffirm their commitment to the Basque Country, highlighting its innovative ecosystem and technological and industrial capabilities,” he stressed.

During the trip, the Minister, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Industry, Mikel Amundarainhas also visited the Space Propulsion Institute and advanced research center in hydrogen production-, as well as Festusan independent family business with almost 100 years of history.

The Basque delegation has also held work meetings with around thirty Basque professionals residing in Bavaria, including engineers from Airbus, BMW, Maier, Orona, Fagor Ederlan, Arteche, Amazon, Schaeffleramong other companies, as well as professionals from the education and health sectors.

As he pointed out, today the multinational group technology based in Elorrio (Bizkaia) has announced the acquisition of the German company Forschner PTM GmbH located near Stuttgart, specialized in bar machining for high-end components, a plant that will acquire special relevance in the autonomous vehicles of the future.
