The High-Level Commission for the Attention of Food Security Crisis is incorporated into the MEF

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) made official the modification of Supreme Resolution No. 010-2022-Midagri that creates the “High-Level Commission for the Attention of the Crisis of Food Security and Family Farming”.

Through this measure, published this Sunday, July 3 in the official newspaper El Peruano, numeral 3.1 of article 3 of the aforementioned rule is modified and incorporates the Minister of Economy and Finance to the High Level Commissionwho will be designated by written communication to the Technical Secretariat of the High-Level Commission, within a maximum period of one business day, counted from the day following the publication of this legal provision.

Thus, the working group will be composed as follows:

• The President of the Council of Ministers, who chairs it
• The Minister of Economy and Finance
• The Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation
• The Minister of Production
• The Minister of Development and Social Inclusion
• The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism
• The Minister of Health
• The Minister of Transport and Communications
• The Minister of Justice and Human Rights.

Among the functions of this multisectoral team are:

• Carry out the diagnosis of the situational state of agricultural production and food supply.
• Identify the products necessary to feed the population, as well as establish strategies to maintain or increase their production or importation.
• Propose a mechanism for the purchase of food from agriculture, in order to allocate it to the common pots, popular kitchens and health establishments.
• Suggest measures to counter possible acts of hoarding and speculation of food and products.
