In order to thwart robberies and fight crime, Ecuadorian Francisco Revelo created an intelligent device called Emptyre, that deflates car tires in two minutes.
The name comes from two English words: empty, which means ’empty’, and pull‘tire’.
In 2018, Revelo began to innovate the device, and in 2021 decided to create the Brimler SAS company to launch the product.
From the wasteland to a shopping center, this is how the dream of a group of entrepreneurs in Ecuador came true
The device goes inside the tire and works when it detects theft. “Through programming and intelligent sensors, both in the control that goes in the cabin and in the device that goes inside the tire, theft is detected and the tires are automatically and progressively deflated in just two minutes,” explains Revelo.
Four engineers work within the small company: an electronics engineer, a business engineer and two industrial mechanics.
Revelo hopes to go beyond social networks in its demand and internationalize its product. He longs to reach China, Mexico and other countries.
They currently have devices for cars, trucks and motorcycles.
This business was part of the ventures and ideas of Ecuadorians who traveled to Israel a few weeks ago to participate in the project. Innovup, an immersive learning and knowledge transfer program.
World Entrepreneurship Day: Is it advisable to start a business before the age of 20?
On that trip, Revelo was trained in innovation. “We learned that it is necessary to innovate in technologies and have a vision of expansion outside our borders. The application of this knowledge will be mainly to have a systematic process to create new solutions for the market”, he says.
Another of the business owners who had this opportunity was Jocelyn Valencia, co-founder and manager of yakupura (in Quichua, yaku means ‘water’). Together with Carolina Placencia and Danilo Mendoza, they developed a water filter to reduce plastic consumption.
“It is made with food-grade plastic, and the part that adapts is an elastomer, and inside it has activated carbon made from coconut shells,” Valencia details.
Innovate or fall by the wayside, a decision that marked the course of the traditional D’Matilde, which announces the opening of larger and more modern premises
They launched the product in 2019. In 2020 they were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 reflected a 250% growth in sales. And in 2022 they created more products linked to filters: a filter pitcher, a water dispenser and a membrane.

They currently employ four people and hope to expand their market. “In Israel you see that they are experts. They are at the forefront of technology, cybersecurity, how they invest in their entrepreneurs (…). (I learned) that you don’t have to be afraid of failing; you have to jump in and learn from those mistakes and pick up again”, he points out.
Yakupura filters purify water equivalent to 500 plastic bottles and avoid the use of more than a million bottles in the countryaccording to Jocelyn.
While, there are enterprises that continue in ideas, but with the firm vision of positioning itself in the country. One of them is E-Kamaymade up of sisters Vanessa and Nicole Sisalema and by Andrea Rodríguezfrom Ambato.
These are the business ideas that are outlined for 2022 in Ecuador
The E is in allusion to ecology and kamay in Quichua it means ‘coating’. This business idea consists of creating wall coverings made with recycled raw materials and with designs from the Ecuadorian culture..
According to Vanessa, they are still improving the prototype to launch it on the market. “We have a formula made from recycled materials, with wood dust that is waste from some industries and others. (…) We made something similar to ceramics”, mentions Vanessa.
The trip to Israel, where they visited research centers, served to broaden their vision, according to Nicole. “The goal is for Ecuador to have an ecosystem like Israel, which connects various points such as academia and others to encourage the entrepreneur,” she says.
That knowledge was acquired 52 entrepreneursin addition to best practices from universities, business accelerators and incubators, says Andrés Zurita, executive director of the Alliance for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (AEI).
The immersion program was between May 6 and 20. Entrepreneurs between 25 and 35 years old from Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Loja, Riobamba and Manta participated.

They were people with a business idea in the initial stage, in growth or who are already positioned in the national market.
“The Innovup program was born from an initiative of President Guillermo Lasso, who wanted to bring at least 50 entrepreneurs to Israel so that they learn the best practices of entrepreneurship and innovation and replicate them in the country,” says Zurita. In addition, it arises from the Innovative and Sustainable Entrepreneur Ecuador Strategy by 2030.

After this, the entrepreneurs will work in the following months to incorporate these new learnings. “We are working with our allies in a technology cluster to further develop the ecosystem and empower innovative entrepreneurs,” says Zurita.
They want to replicate these types of trips in the future. Meanwhile, they continue to give advice to those who visited Israel in the first edition. (YO)
