Flowers, cards, chocolates have already begun to invade the streets as a gift proposal for mothers. Mother’s Day is also an opportunity for reactivation and economic movement that can double and even triple sales, according to the Cusco Chamber of Commerce.
Jhon Gonzáles, representative of the Cusco businessmen, points out that the most favored items will be restaurants, country houses, pastry shops and electrical appliance stores. “Previous years have shown that, despite the pandemic, the Mother’s Day moves the economy. That day everyone is looking for a gift despite the economic situation they have, ”he indicated.
Although the economic projection is not yet available, Gonzáles mentioned that this special date will provide an opportunity for consolidated companies, as well as small entrepreneurs.
Fairs and trade
The Provincial Municipality of Cusco promotes four fairs on the occasion of Mother’s Day, in the Espinar square, San Francisco, San Pedro and the Alameda Pachacuteq. The manager of Economic Development, Juan Carlos Galdós reported that more than 500 entrepreneurs will benefit. Clothes, shoes, food, handicrafts, among others, will be sold.
He explained that the fairs promote economic development, but they also seek to control street trading. “We want to avoid disorder, that’s why we guarantee appropriate places so that the products are sold with all the guarantees,” he said.
In the Historic Center of Cusco alone, the existence of more than 3,000 street vendors is estimated.
