“We believe in socially responsible mining,” the Aquia community responds to Antamina

The peasant community of Aquia, which complies with a strike in the Antamina mining corridor, clarified that it is not opposed to the miningInstead, they support such activity as long as it is “socially responsible.”

As is known, the route has been blocked for a few days by the residents, in protest of an alleged usurpation of land by the mining company.

On the night of Sunday October 31, Víctor Gobitz, president-CEO of Antamina, appeared at Punto Final and accused a person identified as ‘Damián’ as responsible for the excesses, whom he described as “very violent and with an agenda different “, and who would have come to” threaten death “and” burn the facilities. ” This would have forced the mining company to opt for the suspension of operations.

The community has not remained silent and by means of a statement they responded to the executive syndicating him with a smear campaign.

“Antamina has started a new communication strategy and to discredit the just social demands of the people of Aquia. In addition to handling a double discourse, presenting itself as a ‘socially responsible’ company that ‘promotes dialogue and social listening, ”they began in their statement.

And it is that the leaders of Aquia affirm that Antamina has criminally denounced the community women and the directive. “We make a call to the defense organizations of the DD. H H. let them see our case ”.

Likewise, they responded to Gobitz’s accusations for presenting them as anti-miners and stated the opposite.

“The rural community of Aquia believes in mining, but in socially responsible mining, with a social face. We are not anti-miners. Mr. Victor Gobitz, don’t lie to Peru and the world. The law does not protect the abuse of rights, and you are doing it and dragging Antamina to worldwide discredit ”, they challenged the mining representative and have also requested his removal.

From Aquia, they also point out that the company has evaded all kinds of dialogue, despite having sent documents that “they have ignored.”

On the other hand, the leaders warned that Antamina would be politicizing their demands in order to “build a media-political plot to seek a possible presidential vacancy.”
