According to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the month of October 2021, the Consumer’s price index (IPC) at the National level and Metropolitan Lima, presented an increase of 0.58%, which represented an accumulated variation at the tenth month of the year of 5.73% and 5.23%, respectively.
The entity stated that the result of inflation in Metropolitan Lima was mainly influenced by the dynamism of prices registered by three consumer groups: rental housing, combustibles (GLP) and electricity (1.65%); transportation and communications (0.93%); and food and beverages, with 0.53%.
To a lesser extent, furniture, household goods and home maintenance 0.47% and other goods and services with 0.33%, which together contributed positively with 0.56 percentage points and explained 95% of the variation of the general index ( 0.58%).
Thus we have that the products whose prices rose the most were: the Italian tomato (14.1%), the GLP (13.1%), passion fruit (11.8%), strong avocado (11.3%), mandarin (10.5%), national air tickets (10.5%), onion (9.6%) and lemon (8.9%).
Meanwhile, the products whose costs fell the most were: Chinese onion (-4.5%), horse mackerel (-5.2%), strawberry (-5.3%), mussels (-5.7% ), pore (-5.8%), eggs (-6.3%), parakeet (-14.1%) and bonito (-33.9%).
CPI nationwide
While the consumer price index at the National Level rose 0.58%, four consumer divisions presented results higher than the national average: accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 1.60%; transport (1.10%); restaurants and hotels (0.73%) and furniture; articles for the home and its conservation, with 0.65%.
Below the national indicator were recreation and culture (0.49%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.38%), various goods and services (0.30%); and to a lesser extent, clothing and footwear (0.21%); health in 0.18%; alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.09%) and communications 0.04%.
Meanwhile, the Education division, on average, did not register any variation.
In the cities, inflation increased in twenty-five cities, with the highest rates being observed, with variations greater than 1.00%, in Puerto Maldonado 1.41%, Ayacucho 1.12% and Abancay with 1.11%.
With less growth, varying in an interval between 1.00% and 0.70%, there are five cities, on the coast, Tumbes 0.96% and Chimbote 0.74%; in the mountains Cusco 0.94% and Huancayo 0.74% were observed; and in the jungle to Iquitos with 0.79%.
