Even so, compared to a year ago, the average price of electricity for this Wednesday will be 8.4% more expensive.
The average price of electricity in the wholesale market will plummet 24% on Wednesday compared to this Tuesdaythus resuming the declines, to fall below 90 euros per megawatt (MWh) and mark a new annual minimum.
Even so, compared to a year ago, the average price of electricity for this Wednesday will be 8.4% more expensive than the 78.58 euros/MWh of April 20, 2021.
Specifically, the average price of the ‘pool’ for this Wednesday will be 85.19 euros/MWh, its lowest level since last October 31, after becoming cheaper by almost 27 euros compared to 112.12 euros/MWh today, according to data published by the Iberian Energy Market Operator (OMIE).
Gas price relief
This reduction in the price of the wholesale market in the last week, where the lowest values have been registered so far in 2022, coincides with a relief in the price of natural gas and a greater contribution of renewable energies in generation.
Specifically, the price of natural gas in the Mibgas is trading this Tuesday at 64.66 euros/MWh, despite the fact that it has become more expensive by 17.3% compared to the 55 euros/MWh at which it was exchanged yesterday. These prices are in any case very far from those of around 200 euros/MWh to which it climbed in March after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
