The Lehendakari presents new “social and economic rescue” measures worth 200 million

The measures that the Basque Government will approve next Tuesday, in the Governing Council, are added to the “immediate measures” taken at the beginning of the crisis, as presented by Urkullu in the monograph on the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

the lehendakari Inigo Urkullu has presented in the Basque Parliament the next measures that its Executive will take to deal with the consequences of the war in Ukraine, which will be divided into a “social rescue fund” and another for “economic rescue” and will be endowed with €200 million.

The Basque Parliament has carried out a monographic session on the measures that the Basque Government should adopt in view of the consequences of the war in Ukraine, at the request of EH Bildu. The Basque Government will approve the new measures, as explained by Urkullu, at the next Governing Council, on Tuesday, April 12.

The new measures “address the requests of the economic and social agents at the social dialogue table, the clusters and the sectors directly affected”, according to the Lehendakari, who also adds that “they incorporate suggestions from the parliamentary groups”.

Specifically, the “social rescue fund“It will be endowed with 15 million, with social aid for the most vulnerable people (such as social emergency aid and to alleviate energy poverty or for the integration of homeless people) and also for the reception of Ukrainian refugees.

As for the “economic rescue fund“, will be endowed with 143 million and proposes to expand the aid programs aimed at companies and micro-SMEs with 63 million euros. It also proposes to expand complementary aid to companies in the first sector by 60 million, complementary aid to the commercial sector worth 20 million and complementary liquidity measures with an additional allocation of 40 million.

The Lehendakari explained that the new measures will complement the “immediate” ones taken at the beginning of the crisis, always in line with the measures of the EU and the Government of Spain.

He has stated that he is going to continue “evaluating the situation, analyzing the degree of effectiveness of the measures adopted and, if necessary, continuing to expand them”. As she has remarked, Euskadi has “the resources to be able to do it” and has defended “manage remnants responsibly“.

In this sense, the Basque Government is evaluating other “transformative measures”, within the framework of “the highest budgets in our history”, among which a centralized energy purchase program and a food chain price observatory stand out. , among other.

“Our proprietary and balanced model works”

The Lehendakari has warned that the situation is “very serious” and that its consequences will last over time, but he assures that Euskadi’s “own and balanced model” works.

Compared to other proposals from the parliamentary groups, such as the “protection economy”, he assures that “the best protection is to guarantee economic growth and employment”. As for lowering taxation, Urkullu has called for “prudence.” “There is no social balance and quality public services without fair taxation,” he says.

Likewise, he also asks for “prudence” when talking about a salary increase, since “the most precious asset is employment”, and “unilateral decisions” could put it at risk. “Income agreements must be agreed upon by economic and social agents. The Government can help in these agreements, but we cannot substitute the key players in the negotiation,” he said.
