Guggenheim cleaning workers reach an agreement and end more than nine months of strike

The agreement, signed between the ELA union and the Ferrovial company, includes wage increases of 20% and the disappearance of partial contracts.

End of more than nine months of strike by the cleaning workers of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, whose union representatives (ELA) have reached an agreement with the Ferrovial company, awarded the service. The agreement includes wage increases of 20% and the disappearance of partial contracts.

The 18 women who work in the museum facilities will have access to this salary increase of Progressive form until 2024 and all will have contracts for full timewhich in some cases represents a salary increase of 46%, as reported by ELA in a statement.

The agreement also includes carrying out a time and workload measurement study to avoid overloads and determine what personnel is necessary to carry out the tasks with the quality standards established by the museum.

Aspects related to access to the relief contract are also collected, as well as improvements in licenses, permits and breaks.

The workers began the strikes in June 2021, with two main objectives, according to ELA: achieve an agreement with the center that would improve the working conditions of the workforce and end the wage gap that they suffered with respect to masculinized groups that carry out work of equal value.

This agreement is included, according to ELA, in “the campaign to fight against precariousness” that the union develops to end wages of less than 18,000 euros, the partiality of employment contracts that mainly affect women , as well as aspects related to occupational health.
