The indefinite strike of transport, summoned by Hiru and Tradisna in Hego Euskal Herria, lives its eighth day. In Bizkaia and Navarra there will be caravans of trucks to the government headquarters. In the regional community and in Spain, in addition, governments and associations will hold meetings.
In Bizkaia, convened by the Hiru union, a truck caravan will leave in the morning from Larrabetzu to Bilbao, to the seat of the Basque Government. In Navarra, a caravan organized by Tradisna will leave at 11:00 from Imárcoain to get to Pamplona.
Furthermore, the unions will meet with the Government of Navarra, Every man for himself. Today, representatives of Tradisna will participate in the meeting with the Department of Transportation. Tomorrow it will be Hiru’s turn.
In Spain there will also be a meeting between the Government and representatives of the sectoral body who acts as interlocutor. The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Nadia Calvino; the head of Finance and Public Function, Maria Jesus Monteroand the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Rachel Sanchezwill receive the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC).
This body asks the Government to take “immediate” economic measures to reduce the impact of the rise in fuel prices and asks that the right to work of carriers who do not go on strike be guaranteed. However, the Platform for the Defense of the National and International Road Freight Transport Sector, convener of the indefinite strike, has warned that it will not call off the strike until the Government meets directly with its representatives.
lack of products
The strike is having an increasing effect on industry and commerce. The Mercedes plants in Vitoria-Gasteiz and Volkswagen in Pamplona, the largest in Euskal Herria, will be closed today due to the existing uncertainty regarding the supply of parts.
As for trade, the scarcity is already noticeable. In the Mercabilbao wholesale market, for example, some fresh products, such as fruits and vegetables, are at half of their stock, and in other cases it will begin to be noticed throughout the week.
The strike, as well as the price of fuel, is also affecting fishing. The boats have been stopped since Monday, and today they will decide what to do next.
