The staff of the cardiology service has gathered to show their rejection of the transfer of the cardiac surgery service to the Cruces Hospital.
The workers of the cardiology service of the Basurto Hospital have gathered again for one more Friday to show their rejection of the transfer of the cardiac surgery service to the Cruces Hospitaldenouncing that they are going to let Basurto become a “third level” hospital.
In a concentration This Friday in front of the Hospital, the Basurto Bilbao Bizkirik workers’ platform, the different unions and health professionals have shown their absolute rejection, hoping that this decision will be revoked and the service will remain in Basurto.
The works council representative for the SATSE union, Cristina Calleja, explained to the media that Basurto is a pioneering hospital in this “high level” service and that it makes “no sense” to transfer it to Cruces.
“All they want to do is dismantle the Basurto Hospital and turn it into a third category Hospital”, he pointed out.
Professionals state that the situation is “devastating” because they do not know what will happen to their jobs or when the transfer will take place.
Cristina Calleja argues that in both hospitals there are long waiting lists to intervene patients and that when there is an “urgent need” they will have to refer them to the private service.
For his part, the cardiologist Roberto Sáez has opined that all this does not bring any benefit but it does “very noticeable damage” not only for the cardiology service but for the hospital as a whole.
