The Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, recalled that the Basque Government is studying the adoption of measures to support to companies affected by war in ukraineand has ensured that the Basque business community “is ready“.
In the full control of the Government of the Basque Chamber, the PNV parliamentarian Mikel Arruabarrena asked the minister about the effects of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on Basque companies.
Tapia stressed that in Basque society, in the general economy and in the industrial fabric, the first sensation due to the invasion of Ukraine was “sadness, anger and concern”, and he assured that the Basque Government has worked “since the first moment” with the cluster and sectoral agents.
Arantxa Tapia recalled that the Basque Government is studying the adoption of measures and has indicated that it also they are going to be taken at the State and European level. However, he has ensured that the Basque business fabric “is ready”. “There is capacity, there is technology and we will get out of this too,” she stressed.
The counselor believes that companies “will achieve, with different measures and different aidsdeal with that situation and return to the situation before”.
After citing the scarcity of certain raw materials, the rise in prices and inflation, the uncontrolled price of electricity for fuels, the breakdown of supply chains and the financial situation in general, he warned that “all of this is leading to some of the Basque companies to temporary stoppages”.
