From Cusco, Government calls for dialogue for gas

The massification of gas has no going back, was the overwhelming message that came out yesterday from Cusco, within the framework of the visit of President Pedro Castillo and his Council of Ministers.

From very early on, the delegation flew over lots 88, 56 and 57, accompanied by Adrián Vila, general manager of Pluspetrol, the company in charge of the operation of the Camisea project.

The visit to the Camisea field takes place within the framework of the launch of the New Natural Gas Massification Policy announced by the Government, which seeks to bring this resource, by 2026, to 20 regions of the country and benefit 3 million Peruvian families, according to the Presidency of the Republic.

Later, President Castillo paid a visit to the Camisea industrial zone, accompanied by the chief of the cabinet and the ministers of state. Later, the president moved to the city of Cusco in order to lead the Regional Council of Ministers, the first to be carried out in a decentralized manner.

He also held a meeting with the regional governors of Cusco, Jean Paul Benavente; from Ayacucho, Carlos Rúa; and from Apurímac, Baltazar Lantarón. He also spoke with the provincial mayors of Cusco.

Parallel processes

After the Council of Ministers, the head of the PCM, Mirtha VasquezHe stressed that the Government not only plans to massify gas so that more Peruvians benefit, but also to renegotiate the Camisea gas contracts.

:

“Regarding this resource, this Government reaffirms that we need to meet two objectives: the massification of gas so that it reaches more Peruvians and the second objective is how we renegotiate contracts so that all parties have better conditions. Those are the two objectives and it will be done with respect to property, to free enterprise. We reaffirm it ”, stressed Vásquez.

Similarly, the head of the PCM revealed that Pluspetrol has proposed two alternatives to prop up the arrival of gas to Peruvian homes. The first is the construction of more gas pipelines and the second is to distribute the gas through trucks, as is already the case in other concessions in the country.

“We are going to technically discuss (the proposals) and we want the least expensive and fastest alternative,” he said.

The Camisea project produces 1,600 million cubic feet per day, of which 600 million are sold in the domestic market, 600 million are exported and 400 million are reinjected to the source reservoir due to lack of demand.

About, Pedro Francke, Minister of Economy, stressed that yesterday’s dialogue with the company that works the Camisea gas was quite fruitful. “It was a good opportunity to insist on a very fruitful dialogue with Pluspetrol, with the objective that these resources are used as a priority for the benefit of Peruvian households, transportation and industry. Natural gas represents a great opportunity for us to improve the country’s competitiveness ”, he highlighted.

Cusco proposes Petroperú as manager

:

Jean Paul Benavente, regional governor of Cusco, reported that they have firm commitments with the companies of the Camisea Consortium for the provision of gas and natural gas liquids through the valves that are in Kepashiato.

He added that there is also a commitment to be the state Petroperú the one in charge of distribution in this massification process.

Between 2004-2021, the accumulated royalties delivered by lots 88 and 56 to the State amounted to more than US $ 11,000 million.

The word

Mirtha Vásquez, president of the Council of Ministers

“There are two strategies to massify gas. One has to do with gas pipelines, the other is to distribute it in trucks. Let it be clear that we will not override the law. There is the will of both to reach an agreement ”.
