They prepare reforestation in seven regions to prevent El Niño phenomenon

In 2017, the El Niño Coastal phenomenon It affected thousands of people in different regions of the country and left a large amount of damaged infrastructure in different regions of the country. As part of the prevention activities against this climatic phenomenon, the Authority for Reconstruction with Changes (ARCC) announced that it will invest S / 105 million for a reforestation megaproject in 17 hydrographic basins in seven regions of the country.

This project will be executed from January next year and will have a four year term, until December 2026, according to Amalia Moreno, executive director of ARCC. The basins of the Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash, Lima and Ica regions will be reforested in order to prevent natural disasters such as the El Niño Costero phenomenon.

The ARCC, whose main mission is to design and rehabilitate the damage caused by this climate phenomenon, announced that will be more than 4,463 hectares reforested in the Tumbes, Zaña and Matagente rivers, as part of a first package of interventions that is currently being contracted.

According to the ARCC, this project not only contributes to disaster prevention, but also offers other collateral benefits such as the protection and restoration of natural habitats, recovery of biodiversity, restoration of soils, improvements in air quality, reduction of risks in the event of possible effects of climate change and the revitalization of local economies.
