The Peruvian Agency for Consumers and Users (Opecu) warned that the speed of Peruvian fixed internet download was 43.21 megabits, and ranked 77th out of 179 countries on a global scale, While the mobile of 14.74 megabits, and dropped to position 113 of 140 countries; in December 2021 the speed reached 15.75 megabits.
“Thus, with inadequate speeds, without ideal connectivity, the internet in the country opened in 2022, once again evidencing the inefficient services of telecommunications companies, and the efforts of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Investment Supervisory Agency. Private in Telecommunications (Osiptel) in years”, affirmed the president of Opecu, Héctor Plate Cánepa.
The director added that “the dismal indicators of the Peruvian internet, month after month, in more than a decade, require serious, responsible, transparent and honest work in the sector that promotes an ideal service provision that responds to the strong demands of education, health, online work, digital commerce, among others, and make Peru a highly competent country at a global level”.
The consumer association presented two statistical tables of its own elaboration that show the ranking of countries and monthly and interannual variation of fixed and mobile internet connection speeds at the global, regional, OECD and TPP-11 levels in January 2022, with source from Ookla , Speedtest Global Index, a world leader in tests, data, analysis of Internet speeds, among others, which introduces a change in the Speedtest global index from medium to medium to know the reach of the highest speeds to users in general.
Fixed and mobile internet download speeds in Peru and globally in January 2022
Global Fixed. The fixed Internet download speed increased from 59.77 to 59.86 megabits, and increased by 0.09 Mbps or 0.15%.
Faster. Monaco with 192.68 megabits maintains the first placeescorted by Singapore with 192.01 Mbps, while Chile with 189.36 megabit per second is third place.
Peru. The fixed download speed decreased to 43.21 megabits, ranking 77th out of 179 countries in the world, sixth out of 12 South American countries and ninth in TPP 11.
Global Mobile. Mobile internet download speed increased from 29.54 to 29.60 megabits, and grew by 0.06 megabits or 0.20%.
Faster. United Arab Emirates with 134.41 megabits is first place, Norway with 118.44 Mbps is the second, and Qatar with 109.86 megabit per second is third position.
Peru. The average mobile download speed is 14.74 megabits, down 1.01 Mbps or 6.4%; thus, it ranks 113th out of 140 countries globally, and eighth out of 12 countries in South America.

Permanent. Chile went from 187.50 to 189.36 megabits, grew by 1.86 Mbps or 1%, and remains the leader in the South American region, escorted by Brazil with 87.52 megabit per second (Mbps).
Uruguay is third with 85.61 megabits, while Colombia with 59.97 Mbps is in fourth position and Paraguay with 54.68 megabit is in fifth place.
Peru with 43.21 megabit per second is sixth place, ahead of Argentina, Ecuador and Guyana, which with 38.47, 33.96 and 31.01 megabits are seventh, eighth and ninth position, respectively.
Bolivia with 24.19 Mbps is in tenth place, while Suriname with 10.79 megabits ranked eleventh, and Venezuela with 7.15 megabits the last position in South America.
Mobile. Uruguay with 32.28 megabits is first place, being escorted by Brazil with 23.84 Mbps, while Argentina with 20.07 megabits per second is in third position, and Ecuador with 19.51 megabits was in fourth place.
Bolivia with 15.97 Mbps, Paraguay with 15.97 megabits and Chile with 15.50 megabits per second ranked fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
Peru with 14.74 megabits is in eighth positionovertaking Colombia, which with 12.98 Mbps is in ninth place, while Venezuela with 5.99 Mbps is last in the region.
