Kutxabank: “The campaign has opened our eyes and we have tried to give the elderly a complete response”

Eduardo Ruiz de Gordejuela, president of private banking at Kutxabank, has made a self-criticism and has recognized that the campaign “I am older, not an idiot” demanding human attention in bank offices has had consequences.

Kutxabank will extend its hours of face-to-face attention in the cashier service from 08:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., for people over 65 years of age. In an interview granted to the Euskadi Irratia program “Faktoria”, Eduardo Ruiz de Gordejuela, president of private banking at Kutxabank, has been self-critical and has acknowledged that the “I’m older, not an idiot” campaign calling for human attention in bank offices has had consequences. “The campaign has opened our eyes, not only to us, to the entire bank, and we have tried to give a complete response to the elderly,” he added. According to data provided by Ruiz de Gordejuela, 30% of Kutxabank customers are over 65 years of age.

Ruiz de Gordejuela listed the initiatives launched by Kutxabank to improve customer service: extend the cashier service hours for people over 65 years of age, adapt the telephone service, the elderly will have priority and will be attended to by a person; prepare the mobile banking application for the elderly and make personal managers available to the greatest number of customers.

The Kutxabank representative has also spoken of the consequences of the war in Ukraine and of a possible rise in interest rates. “If it is moderate, the rise in interest rates does not have to be bad,” she stressed.

Eduardo Ruiz de Gordejuela considers that negative interest rates are an anomaly and therefore ensures that a proportionate rise in rates would help normalize the economy.
