The Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) announced this Monday that it initiated an administrative sanctioning procedure against the Repsol company for providing false information in the preliminary environmental emergency report, after the oil spill that occurred two months ago in the multi-buoy terminal No. 2 of the La Pampilla refinery, located in the window sea.
“In the aforementioned report, Repsol informed the OEFA of a spill of 0.6 barrels that affected an area of 2.5 m2. To date, it has been found that the spill has exceeded 10,000 barrels of oil and the affected area covers an area of 11,061 hectares,” the statement read.
The body attached to the Ministry of the Environment explained that the fine for this type of infraction reaches up to 1,000 UIT, which is equivalent to 4.6 million soles.

Administrative proceedings against Repsol
On the other hand, OEFA detailed the administrative procedures that have been initiated against Repsol, whose fines could amount to 59 million soles:
- Failure to comply with the administrative measure to identify areas affected by the spill, whose fine ranges up to 4,000 UIT (18.4 million soles).
- Failure to comply with the administrative measure to clean up all affected areas, 4,000 UIT (18.4 million soles).
- Failure to comply with the administrative measure for the containment and recovery of the hydrocarbon, whose fine ranges up to 4,000 UIT (18.4 million soles).
- Presentation of false information in the Environmental Emergencies Report, whose fine goes up to 1,000 UIT (4.6 million soles).
